English barrister, theatre manager and essayist and playwright. Born Florence April 1732. Died 14 August, 1794.

  3. The Jealous Wife (1761), a comedy of manners based in part on Henry Fielding's novel Tom Jones (1749)

  6. The English Merchant (1767), adapted from Voltaire's The Café
  7. Man and Wife, or The Shakespeare Jubilee (1769)
  8. The Man of Business (1774)
