(1729) - Pierre Carlet de Marivaux
Comedy about a company of men and women who have been shipwrecked on an island where they try to establish a government. The women, led by Arthenice, an extreme feminist, claim independence for themselves and demand that their husbands recognise the concept of sexual equality. The men express their derision, and mutual antagonism hardens into a deadlock. However, when a hostile band invades the island, the women forget all thoughts of independence and fly to their husbands for protection.
