The Unconquerable

(L'invincibile)
Alfredo Oriani - 1902

Modern version of Shakespeare's Hamlet. Ruggero, ten years old when his father was murdered, is now a young man greatly disturbed by his hatred of the Count, his mother's second husband. In his attempts to uncover the mystery of his father's death, Ruggero discovers that it

came at the hands of the Count's brother. Ruggero confronts the Count with this information and announces that he will not tell the court but only his mother so that she may hate him as he does. The Count takes an overdose of a sleeping potion and dies in his wife's arms. Ruggero then discovers that he alone mourns his father and that he has only succeeded in making his mother forget everything in her deep grief for the loss of the Count.
