(1882)
Drama of the Russian princess Fédora, who resolves to avenge, what she believes to have been, the political murder of her fiancé, son of the head of the Russian police. She denounces Loris, the suspected murderer, and follows him to Paris, where they fall in love. Loris confesses to the crime and discloses that it was actually a crime of honour; his wife and Fédora's fiancé had been lovers. To her horror, Fédora learns that Loris's mother and brother have been brutally killed as his accomplices in the murder. In despair she takes poison and dies, having discovered that the desire for personal revenge brings nothing but agony.
