Drama 2 Acts - London 1972
Set in a near future dominated by violent anarchy, this play follows the harrowing overthrow of a contract killer, Hoss, by a much younger killer, Crow, who is intent on ousting Hoss from the top of a hit parade of killers which has replaced the pop hit parade. Hoss and his stable of assistants, all of them caught up in their employer's drug-raddled paranoia, try to whip up a sense of their own inviolable strength to cover feelings of impending disaster.
When Crow eventually arrives, it is agreed that he and Hoss will meet in a bizarre form of single combat, to be judged by a referee, in which they slowly circle round one another mounting ritualised insults meant to undermine the confidence of their opponent. As he is on the point of losing, Hoss gives up the battle and kills himself, leaving Crow free to inherit his mantle as the ultimate killer.
